LECTURES
Week 1: We were given a briefing/introduction to the module and
what we would be doing for the semester. We were also tasked with our first
task which was composing an image with magazine cutouts.
Week 2: Since the air conditioning still isn't running, our class
was cut short. We were taught on the rule of thirds that we could use to make
our images easier to look at and how to use it to our advantage while composing the image.
Week 3: We learned about the basic controls of photoshop but the power
cut out around one and a half hours into the class so it had to be cut short
again.
Week 4: We went through the basics of photoshop and were tasked to create digital collages for our assignment.
Week 5: We learned about how to shoot photos and about how lighting can affect the photo taken. We were tasked to do a photo editing of Hearst Mansion, firstly editing a photo of the character Shazam into the given setting, and then with a picture that we took of ourselves.
Week 6: We learned about poster design during the lecture. We were then tasked with recoloring a black and white image in different ways, first using the brush tool with colors we picked ourselves and later using the masking tool with colors picked from other images.
Week 7: We learned how to create double exposure images and later tasked to create double exposure images ourselves, first following the given tutorial and second using our own image and the techniques we learned.
Week 8: Independent study week.
Week 9: We learned about digital surrealism and moving imagery.
Week 10: We were given an introduction to after effects, learned the basics, given a tutorial and a photoshop file to play around with to learn the app.
PROJECT 1
PROJECT 1A
Week 1:
We had to create this blog and a Pinterest account for this task. The blog was
made as this would serve as our e-portfolio and as for the Pinterest account,
We had to choose 3 design works from Pinterest and explain as to why we chose
and liked the design works.
Week 2:
For this task we had to make compositions using magazine cut-outs on an A4
size paper. These are the compositions that I made.
I cut out the pictures and text from a watch magazine that my father gave me. I then arranged them in ways I thought would be fitting.
1. For this first one, I had the watch in the center as the main attention grabber. I placed the text at the bottom right and and image beside it to fill out the bottom. The fish I placed in the top right is so that I doesn't seem too empty.
Fig 1, Compisition #1
2. For this composition, I tried to place the images and text in a way that it leads the eye across the page nicely. I placed the title in the top right, which would naturally lead to the diver. The diver is looking down at the watch which would then lead the eye to the bright fish and text accompanying it.
Fig 2, Composition #2
3. In the composition, I tried using the golden ratio with the spiral starting from the top right leading all the way down to the diver.

Week 3:
In this task we were given a set of images and tasked to create a digital composition out of said given images. These are the digital compositions I made.
1. I tried arranging the pictures according to the golden ratio.

2. I tried making the pictures follow the flow of the background image.

3. I tried to make a composition that would naturally lead the eye throughout the image.

Week 4:
In this task, we were to experiment with adjustment layers and filters to see how the images interact with each other and to play around with the pen tool and layer masks.
1. I tried making the fish the main focus point and arrange the other images to naturally lead the eye through the rest of the composition.

2. In this composition I was just trying to experiment with the adjustment layers trying to figure out what would look nice when paired with other images and adjustments layers.

PROJECT 1B
Week 5:
We had to edit in a picture of Shazam into a picture of Hearst Castle, and then we had to edit in a picture of ourselves.
1. This wasn't too difficult to do. I just had to follow the instructions given and it ended up looking decent.

2. As for editing myself in, the only really challenging part was trying to get a good picture of myself. There wasn't that many places with good lighting in my house so I tried to compensate by adding some shadows onto my image the same way the shadow behind me was made.

Week 6:
Recoloring Black & White
Exercise 1:
We had to color in a greyscale image using the brush tool, layer masks and layer blending modes. We were given a tutorial. This is my attempt at the tutorial.

Exercise 2:
We had to use layer masks and layer blending modes to recolor black and white images while using hair and skin tones from other images. We were given a tutorial on how to do it. This is my attempt at the tutorial.
Fig 13, My attempt at the tutorial using colors from other images
We then had to pick a black & white image from a folder and recolor it using the same techniques used in the tutorial.
